We at the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance-Interdisciplinary Consortium on Advanced Motion Performance (SALSA-iCAMP) have long suggested that many items that now appear as medical devices, such as smart scales to monitor weight or smart clothes to check vital signs, are really better classified as consumer electronics. What we have to do collectively is to figure out a method for our regulatory bodies and ethics/privacy/security concerns to catch up and harmonize with our digital reality.
