Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a dangerous condition that can lead to unintended injuries when people lose the ability to feel their feet. Last year we spoke with Dr. Breanne Everett, founder of Orpyx Medical Technologies(Calgary, Canada) about the company’s new technology that can detect dangerous pressure levels on the feet, and now the SurroSense Rx System is finally available for purchase in the U.S.
The system includes two shoe inserts that have built-in pressure sensors, a special wristwatch, and two pods for the top of the shoes that link the watch with the sensors. As a user goes about her day, the inserts continuously monitor pressure levels and communicate with the wristwatch, which in turn sounds alarms when levels reach dangerous levels.
All the data can also be transferred to the online Orpyx Connect Account where historical foot pressures are saved and can be charted for later review.
