Here’s a new planning tool for orthopedic surgeons preparing for an operation. A startup out of Portugal called PeekMed has just released a software package that allows patients’ own CT scans to be used to plan surgeries in 3D.
The PeekMed One software allows users to import templates of implants produced by different companies and to virtually try them on the 3D scans of patient anatomy. The models can be viewed in both 2D and 3D and manipulated in various ways to view and try out different approaches. The company is still in the early stages and is planning on adding a bunch of additional features, including compatibility with iOS and Android devices to be able to review the plans in the surgical suite.
